Discovery module of Web NMS is primarily responsible for discovering the topology of the network i.e all the elements that are residing in the network. In addition it also gathers basic information such as sysOID, system Description etc. about the elements it has discovered. This information is further used in discovering and categorizing the resources in the network element. For eg. Printers etc.
Discovery engine of Web NMS is geared towards discovering IP networks. It also discovers SNMP, TL1 and CORBA enabled devices in the network after IP discovery. The default behavior of Web NMS discovery engine is that it discovers networks directly attached to the Web NMS system. Discovery process can be controlled and extended in many ways.
