Overview
AdventNet Agent Tester is a comprehensive SNMP agent-testing tool
to perform functional and non-functional validation with debugging
of SNMP agents. Manual testing is time-consuming and error-prone.
Agent Tester plays an important role in automating the testing process
and in completing the work within a short period. Agent Tester is
a powerful SNMP test tool addressing all agent aspects, such as
MIB syntax testing, behavior testing, performance testing, functional
testing, and stress testing. Agent Tester also tests an agent's
compliance with SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3 standards.
AdventNet Agent Tester primarily consists of
- An SNMP Agent Tester that provides you a GUI-based automated
environment for testing your SNMP Agent. Testing includes performing
standard SNMP operations on the implemented MIBs, checking the
MIB syntax, checking for compliance, validating traps, and so
on.
- A MIB Browser that enables loading, browsing, and searching
MIBs, walking the MIB tree, and performing all other SNMP-related
functions.
- Powerful TCL processing engine decodes the TCL commands and
executes tests and the results are sent back to TCL processing
engine.
- Testcases are completely customizable.
- You can write new testcases and add them to the existing test
suite. Sample TCL scripts to help users customize the testcases
at ease.

How SNMP Agent Tester Works?
SNMP Agent Tester is a software designed to test the implementation
of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Management Information
Base (MIB) in an agent. It provides you an automated environment
for testing your SNMP agent exhaustively and rapidly. You just have
to provide the agent information, load the MIBs implemented in the
agent, and validate.
To validate an SNMP agent, SNMP Agent Tester takes the following
agent information:
- Agent host,
- Agent port,
- Authentication details for v1 and v2 agents (read community
and write community),
- USM table user name for v3 agents, and
- MIBs, both standard and private, implemented in the agent
SNMP Agent Tester automatically maps the loaded MIB objects to
the built-in test cases, validates the SNMP agent with reference
to the standards, and generates reports.
