AdventNet Multi-Protocol Agent - Example on Cascader Service

Introduction

This is a simple example to illustrate the usage of Cascading service provided by the AdventNet JMX implementation. This creates a Master-Sub agent architecture in Multi-Protocol Agent.

Overview

Cascader Service helps to obtain the Master-SubAgent architecture in the Multi-Protocol Agent. This example contains two agents, one containing the Cascader Service (DynamicJmxAgent.java) which acts as the Master Agent and the other agent (StandardJmxAgent.java) acts as the SubAgent.
Master Agent:
The protocol adaptor supported are HTML at port 8030
Sub Agent:
The protocol adaptor supported are RMI at port 1099.
This example starts both the Master and Sub Agents and the cascader service is used to cascade and mirror the MBeans available in the Sub Agent on the Master Agent side.

Source files

Following are the generated source files,

Compilation

Go to AdventNet/JavaAgent/examples/jmx/cascader directory in the command prompt and type,

compile *.java [Windows] (or)
sh compile.sh *.java [Linux/Solaris]

This compiles the source files and puts it in the respective directory.

Running the Agent

To start the agent, go to AdventNet/JavaAgent/examples/jmx/cascader directory in the command prompt and

1. Run the startMasterAgent.bat (for Windows) or startMasterAgent.sh (for Linux/Solaris) from the command prompt

By default,
(a) the HTML Adaptor Server will be running on 8030

2. Similarly, run the startSubAgent.bat or startSubAgent.sh from the command prompt

By default,
(a) the RMI Connector Server will be started at port 1099

Testing the Agents and Inferring the Output

Use any web browser to connect to the Multi-Protocol Master agent (through HTML adaptor) by specifying the URL as http://localhost:8030.This will list all the MBeans available with the Master Agent. The Master Agent prompt will be ready to accept the input for starting the Cascader.

Use MBean Browser to view the list of MBeans available in the SubAgent.

Goto the Master Agent prompt and press any key to start the Cascader Service.

Connect to the Master Agent via the web browser at port 8030.It will list the MBeans available in the Master Agent as well as the Standard MBean that was available on the Sub Agent side. This MBean is nothing but a mirror of the StandardMBean available at the SubAgent. Any set/get requests for this MBean will be cascaded to the Original MBean on the Sub Agent side.
