MIB Browser Overview

AdventNet MIB Browser is a user-friendly tool to test, monitor, and manage multiple SNMP devices on a network. It allows network and system engineers to load both standard and vendor proprietary MIBs and retrieve data about the software and hardware configurations through the SNMP agent running on the device.

The MIB Browser tool is built using the Java SNMP API and is platform-independent. The single package can run on Windows, Solaris and Linux platforms. The tool can be started either as "stand-alone application" or as "Java applet from a Web Browser".

• Multi lingual support: Complete support for SNMPv1, SNMPv2c and SNMPv3 protocols over UDP and TCP.

• Multi protocol Agent support : Supports communicating with UDP / TCP Agents.

• SNMP operations: Supports GET, GETNEXT, SNMP-WALK,GETBULK, and SET.

• IPv6 support: Complete support for IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) at protocol level.

• Multi varbind support: Allows grouping of multiple OIDs in a single request in all SNMP Protocol operations.

• MIB loading: Support for loading MIBs either directly, from compiled file, or from the database.

• GlobalView option: To view the loaded MIB OIDs in lexicographical order. By default, this option is disabled and the MIB OIDs are grouped under specific MIB modules.

• SNMP Walk: Gets the values of all SNMP Variables in the MIB subtree.

• Table Viewer: To view SNMP Table data in columnar form.

• Trap Viewer: To receive traps (v1/v2c/v3) and INFORMS (v2c/v3) from multiple SNMP agents in a single window, to parse traps based on pre-defined match criteria, to log the traps in a flat file either in Text / XML, and to receive authenticated traps.

• Graphing: To plot the real-time SNMP data in line or bar graphs.

• Debug window: To display SNMP packets exchanged between manager and agent in raw hexadecimal format, and Decoder window to view the raw packet dumps in decoded, human-readable format for easy debugging.

• Internationalization support: It allows vendors to customize the tool to suit their country and language.

MIB Browser Functionality

Using AdventNet MIB Browser, field engineers can easily load standard and proprietary MIB files, view and manipulate data available in an SNMP agent by browsing MIBs and performing other SNMP management operations. It also allows a user to search a particular MIB node from the loaded MIB modules. Besides these, user has an option to set the parsing level so that some MIBs not conforming to SMI standards can also be loaded without any problem. The tool also has the provision to load the recently loaded files during startup and thereby reduces the pain of loading all the MIBs again.
