12.5.1.3 Navigating Web Client

Introduction

The Web Client provides faster access to information available in the Central Server database. Lower download time and lower bandwidth  utilization are the key factors why Web Client is preferred over Java Client.

However, this user interface has its own limitations. All the options available in the Java Client are not available in this interface. Refer Choosing the Client section of Web NMS User Guide to help you choose a suitable Client.

Global View

The Web Client has global views for maps, events, alarms, and network database. These views represent data across all the Distributed Mediation Servers. The global views are available only to the Administrator at the Central Server side.

The available global views are:

DMS Map:  This Map displays the Distributed Mediation Servers registered with the Central Server in the form of a map with symbols. Click DMS Map under Global View to view this map.

Network Maps: This node in the tree has subnodes for ipnet, Routers, Switches, Failed System, and individual networks. Click the subnodes to view the corresponding maps.

Network Events: This view lists all the events across all regions managed by the Distributed Mediation Servers registered with the Central Server. Click the Network Events node under Global View > Fault Management to view the global events list.

Alarms : This view lists all the alarms across all regions managed by the Distributed Mediation Servers registered with the Central Server. Click the Alarms node under Global View > Fault Management to view the global alarms list.

Network Database: This view lists all the objects across all the Distributed Mediation Servers registered with the Central Server. The objects include the networks, nodes, interfaces, switches, and routers. Click Network Database node under Global View to view this list.

Web Client Tree: The tree serves as an easy navigating tool, helping you traverse between the various views in the Web Client. All the global views are grouped under Global View node. The DMS-specific views are grouped for each DMS under the <DMS name> node. Following is a snapshot of the tree in Web Client:

Distributed Mediation Server Details

Views specific to each Distributed Mediation Server are provided as subnodes under the specific DMS node in the tree.  The views include Network Maps, Network Database, Fault Management, and Performance.

Click the Distributed Mediation Server name in the tree, to view its details. Details like, the DMS name, its status, the OS of the device in which the DMS is installed, etc are displayed. Following is a snapshot:
